Mars is the mythological warrior god, and governs our survival instinct, whether we fight or run. Contrasting with Venus, Mars symbolizes the male principle, and is competitive, aggressive, and ready for action. Mars is also full of drive and energy, shows courage when confronted by enemies, and is associated with the original hero. Martian traits are often seen as a daredevil mentality and are associated with brave acts. Today, the energy of Mars can be used to forge ahead in careers, reach our goals, and stand up for convictions.

Being in charge of the will to survive, it is related to the release of adrenaline in the human body along with the ability to react quickly. These same energies can also be expressed through bad temper, anger, aggression, and impatience. However, we need Mars to supply us with the dynamism, strength, initiative, and the drive to accomplish our goals through our own efforts. Aries is ruled by Mars.
